Stephen Collier is a Professor in the Department of City & Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley. His research integrates science and technology studies, governmentality studies, and pragmatist approaches to explore urban governance, expertise, and infrastructure.
- Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Anthropology from UC Berkeley and UC Santa Cruz
- Specializes in climate adaptation, emergency governance, and neoliberalism in post-Soviet contexts
His recent work focuses on urban resilience and finance in climate adaptation, analyzing how planning paradigms shift toward anticipating disasters. Articles in journals like Geoforum and Political Geography highlight intersections of insurance, infrastructure, and design in resilience planning.
Collier’s scholarship includes co-edited journals and special issues on bioscurity, infrastructure, and systemic risk. He teaches courses on climate planning, infrastructure policy, and planning theory at UC Berkeley.
