Stephanie Valentine is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management and the School of Computing at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her research focuses on human-computer interaction, interface design, machine learning, and developmental psychology, particularly studying how children communicate on online social networks. She holds a BA in Computer Science from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota (2011) and a PhD in Computer Science from Texas A&M University (2016). Valentine has received notable awards, including the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship and the Mentoring Excellence Award. She founded Wired Youth, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to child internet safety. At the Raikes School, she teaches computing courses and advises on interdisciplinary projects.
Her academic affiliations include dual appointments in the Raikes School and the School of Computing, emphasizing computational ethics and youth digital safety. Valentine collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to design educational tools and prevention strategies against cyberbullying and online threats. Her work bridges technical innovation with child development, aiming to foster safe digital environments for minors.
