Dr. Stephanie Tobin is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Psychology & Counselling, Faculty of Health, Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Ohio State University. Her research focuses on understanding how social media use impacts well-being, interpersonal goals, and mental health outcomes. Key areas include the effects of feedback sensitivity, compassionate goals, and attachment anxiety on social media engagement. She explores topics like online anonymity, trolling, and the role of interpersonal goals in digital interactions.
Her work integrates experimental, correlational, and qualitative methods to address prosocial and antisocial online behaviors. Collaborative projects with international researchers and students have led to findings on relationship maintenance, self-concept clarity, and the 'dark tetrad' traits influencing online behavior. Dr. Tobin is affiliated with the Centre for Inclusive Education (C4IE) at QUT and contributes to teaching PYB100 and PYB202 courses.
Her research has been published in journals such as Cyberpsychology, Behavior, and Social Networking and Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin. She actively supervises doctoral candidates in areas like social media's role in anxiety and prosocial behavior in video games.
