Stephanie Schroedter

Stephanie Schroedter is a Professor for the development of transdisciplinary artistic theories at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 2021. Her academic journey includes a doctorate in Music and Dance Studies from the University of Salzburg (supported by FWF Vienna) and a habilitation at Freie Universität Berlin (2015), granting her the venia legendi in Music and Dance Studies. She has held roles as a research assistant, visiting, and substitute professor at institutions including Universities of Bayreuth, Berlin, Heidelberg, and Bern/CH, focusing on musicology, dance studies, and media studies.

Her research explores 'musically/soundwise moving knowledge' at the intersection of artistic practice and aesthetic reflection. A key contribution is her edited anthology Music and Motion (2025), featuring 41 international scholars across music, dance, theatre, media studies, and practice-oriented fields like sound studies and music education. This work is openly accessible via mdw-press.
