Stephanie S.M.H. Höhn is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge, working in the Goldstein group on the Mechanics of Morphogenesis. She is also a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Trinity Hall and serves as the Researcher Representative for Equality & Diversity in DAMTP and a Steering Group Member of CamAWiSE (Cambridge Association for Women in Science & Engineering).
Her research integrates biophysics, developmental biology, and mathematics to understand cell sheet folding during embryonic development. Using model organisms like Volvox and Amphioxus, she combines advanced imaging, experiments, and computational modeling to reveal how cellular forces shape tissues, with implications for birth defects and cancer. Her expertise spans molecular cell biology, light sheet microscopy, micropipette aspiration, and theoretical shell mechanics.
Recent publications demonstrate that cellular organization obeys maximum entropy laws and uncover universal mechanical principles of epithelial folding. Funded by the Cambridge Centre for Physical Biology and the Society for Developmental Biology, her work bridges theoretical frameworks with experimental validation across diverse biological systems.
Dr. Höhn actively promotes inclusive research environments through CamAWiSE and professional societies including the Royal Microscopy Society, Biophysical Society, and Society for Developmental Biology.
