Jun.-Prof. Dr. Stephanie Jung is an Assistant Professor at the University of Bonn, affiliated with the Institute of Cardiovascular Immunology. Her research focuses on virus-host interactions, particularly the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in immune recognition and viral evasion. She investigates how viruses manipulate cellular machinery and innate defense mechanisms, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understand viral pathogenesis and immune responses.
Key research topics include viral infection mechanisms, EV-mediated communication between infected and non-infected cells, and the interplay between viral RNAs and intracellular sensors like RIG-I and MDA5. Her work bridges virology, immunology, and molecular biology, with applications in infectious disease and autoimmune disorders. She leads the Cellular Virology team, fostering collaborative projects on EV purification, innate immunity, and antiviral strategies.
Publications highlight advancements in EV standardization (MISEV guidelines), hepatitis virus research, and cytokine modulation. Her studies explore both fundamental mechanisms and translational applications, such as improving vaccine development and biosafety protocols. Grants and collaborations with institutions like the University Hospital Bonn support her transdisciplinary approach to tackling global health challenges.
