Stephan Sigler

Stephan Sigler serves as a lecturer in mathematics, geography, and Waldorf education at the Institute for Subject Didactics, affiliated with the Teacher Training College for Waldorf Education in Kassel. He has held this position since 2004 while simultaneously serving as a senior teacher at the Free Waldorf School in Kassel since 2006. Since 2008, he has also lectured at Alanus University, and has contributed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Pedagogical Research Centre of the Association of Independent Waldorf Schools since 2006.

Born in 1965, Sigler completed his teacher training for secondary school in mathematics, physics, and geography at Johann Wolfgang Goethe University Frankfurt a. M., followed by postgraduate studies at the Teacher Training College for Waldorf Education in Kassel (1995-1996). His early career included teaching positions at the Free Waldorf School in Frankfurt a. M. from 1994-2004.

Sigler's research centers on understanding-oriented mathematics instruction for upper grades at Waldorf schools, with particular emphasis on projective geometry implementation and boundary processes that challenge conventional mathematical thinking. His work bridges anthroposophical educational principles with practical classroom applications, focusing on how mathematical concepts can be taught in developmentally appropriate ways that connect with students' cognitive growth stages. This approach extends to middle school mathematics instruction, which remains a central focus of his pedagogical development.
