معرفی
Dr. Stephan Hamperl is an Independent Group Leader at the Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells (IES), Helmholtz Zentrum München, where he heads the Chromosome Dynamics and Genome Stability research group. He also serves as Project Leader for A29 in the LMU-hosted Collaborative Research Center 1064, focusing on DNA replication origin analysis through locus-specific chromatin isolation.
His academic training includes:
- Diploma in Biochemistry (2004-2008) from University of Regensburg
- PhD in Biochemistry (2012) from University of Regensburg under Prof. Joachim Griesenbeck
Research interests center on molecular mechanisms preserving genome integrity, with emphasis on DNA replication-transcription conflicts, R-loop dynamics, and chromatin architecture. His lab develops cutting-edge genomic tools like qDRIP for RNA-DNA hybrid mapping and proximity labeling for chromatin studies, bridging molecular biology, epigenetics, and cancer biology to address fundamental questions in genome maintenance.
Analysis of his 2017-2020 publications reveals consistent focus on replication stress responses and method innovation, with high-impact outputs spanning Cell, Science, and Nucleic Acids Research. His work demonstrates interdisciplinary integration of biochemistry, genomics, and cell biology to dissect DNA damage mechanisms.
Prestigious recognitions include:
- ERC Starting Grant (2020-2025) from EU Horizon2020 program
- Stanford Joan Mansour Awards for Best Paper (2017) and Oral Presentation (2016)
- DFG Postdoctoral Fellowship (2013-2015)
As an ERC-funded PI, Dr. Hamperl directs a dynamic research program with active supervision of graduate students and postdocs. His lab maintains state-of-the-art facilities for genomic analysis within IES, supported by substantial grant funding and institutional resources at Helmholtz Zentrum München.
The Chromosome Dynamics lab operates within Helmholtz Zentrum München's Institute of Epigenetics and Stem Cells, leveraging core facilities for advanced microscopy and genomics. The team maintains strong international ties, particularly with Stanford University, and contributes to collaborative networks through CRC 1064 and ERC-funded initiatives.
