Prof. Dr. Stephan G. Schmid is a Professor of Classical Archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology, Humboldt University of Berlin and at the Cluster of Excellence TOPOI. His research focuses on Classical Archaeology with particular interests in:
- Mediterranean archaeology
- Archaeology of Cyprus
- Archaeology of Petra (Jordan)
- Ancient urban development
- Hellenistic to Byzantine transition periods
Prof. Schmid is currently leading several significant research projects:
- Projet Archéologique du Rocher des Aures (PARA)
- Max Ohnefalsch-Richter's (1850-1917) archaeological research on Cyprus
- DFG project "The Development of the City Center of Petra (Jordan) from Hellenistic to Byzantine Times" (in collaboration with the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg)
