Stephan Burgstaller

Dr.nat.techn. Stephan Burgstaller M.Sc. is a zoology researcher affiliated with the Institute of Zoology at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU). His work focuses on spatial ecology and conservation biology of amphibians, particularly the European green toad (Bufotes viridis), in urban environments. Burgstaller has presented at multiple international conferences, including the European Citizen Science Association Conference and the European Congress of Herpetology, where he discussed projects like "AmphiBiom – Lebensraum für Wechselkröte und Co", aimed at combatting habitat loss through participatory research. He has also collaborated on studies examining animal movement patterns in protected areas such as the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel National Park.

Burgstaller's research integrates ecological modeling, population genetics, and urban biodiversity planning. His presentations often highlight ecological adaptability of species in anthropogenically disturbed habitats and the role of community engagement in conservation. He has co-authored studies on carpenter bee spatial ecology and habitat connectivity for threatened species.
