Associate Professor Stella Huangfu is a faculty member in the Department of Economics at the University of Sydney, where she has worked since 2006. She holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Toronto (2007). Her research focuses on monetary economics, frictional markets, and macroeconomic theory, with contributions to banking systems and credit markets.
Key research interests include the effects of inflation on market dynamics, banking competition, and the role of search frictions in economic relationships. Her work has been published in top journals such as the Journal of Economic Theory, International Economic Review, and European Economic Review.
Recent notable publications include a textbook co-authored with Olivier Blanchard (Macroeconomics 5th Australasian Edition, 2024) and studies on social media influencers in luxury branding (2025), banking oligopoly theory (2021), and inflation's long-run impacts (2020).
She has secured grants such as the 2021 Australian Research Council-funded project on banking system competition. Her research also explores central bank digital currency design and labor-credit market imperfections, with working papers under review.
