Stela Canulescu is a Senior Researcher and Group Leader in the Department of Electrical and Photonics Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). She holds a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (2004–2008). Her primary research focuses on thin-film photovoltaics, semiconductor materials, and nanomaterials, with a particular emphasis on pulsed laser deposition techniques and optoelectronic device development.
Education:
- PhD in Thin-Film Photovoltaics, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (2004–2008)
Research Interests:
- Development of high-efficiency photovoltaic materials (e.g., CZTS, MoS2, and 2D layered materials)
- Optimization of thin-film deposition processes (e.g., pulsed laser deposition, sputtering)
- Characterization of nanomaterials for optoelectronic applications
- Thermochromic materials and energy-efficient systems
Recent Research Trends: Her recent work emphasizes 2D materials (e.g., MoS2 nanoribbons) for photodetectors and photovoltaics, as well as novel approaches to enhance the performance and stability of chalcogenide solar cells. She has also explored hybrid tandem solar cell architectures and advanced interface engineering techniques.
Awards:
- 2023: Prize for 'Developing Ultra-Thin Photodetector Based on Molybdenum Disulfide Nanoribbons'
Advising & Grants:
- Supervising multiple PhD students (e.g., H.M. Gupta, A.M.P. Enevoldsen) on projects involving 1D structured materials and photonic crystallization.
- Principal Investigator on projects like 'Junctionless Nanostructure Solar Cells' (2024–2026) and 'New Tunable n-Type Material for Solar Cells' (2023–2026).
Labs & Teams: Leads the Thin-Film Photovoltaics group at DTU, collaborating globally on topics such as semiconductor interfaces and nanomaterial synthesis.
