Dr. Steffen Pahlow is a Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Plant Genetics at the University of Hamburg, Faculty of Mathematics, Computer Science and Natural Sciences, Department of Biology, Institute of Plant Sciences and Microbiology. He works in the Otto Warburg House, Room 1.112, focusing on plant molecular genetics and RNA transport mechanisms.
His academic background includes:
- PhD research (2013-2018) at Universität zu Lübeck as part of the Graduate College "SIMOS - Structural Biology of Interaction Modules in Stress" under Prof. Dr. Julia Kehr
- M.Sc. in Biochemistry (2013) from Universität zu Lübeck
- Master's degree in Molecular Life Science (2010-2013) from Universität zu Lübeck
- Bachelor's degree in Molecular Life Science (2007-2010) from Universität zu Lübeck
Dr. Pahlow's research focuses on molecular plant genetics, particularly studying RNA transport mechanisms in plants. His work centers on phloem biology and long-distance signaling in Brassica napus (oilseed rape). He is currently working on the ERC-funded PLAMORF project "Plant Mobile RNAs: Function, Transport and Features" since 2019, investigating how RNA molecules move through plant vascular systems and their functional implications.
His research combines molecular biology, plant physiology, and proteomics to understand plant communication mechanisms. The work has implications for agricultural science and plant breeding.
Dr. Pahlow has collaborated with researchers at prestigious institutions including the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School in Singapore.
