Steffen Nielsen is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University's Department of Sustainability and Planning, affiliated with The Technical Faculty of IT and Design and the Sustainable Energy Planning Research Group. His research focuses on strategic heating planning, leveraging GIS for mapping energy demands and renewable resources. He specializes in integrating spatial analyses with energy system models to transition towards 100% renewable energy systems, particularly in the heating sector.
Nielsen emphasizes energy efficiency in buildings, advocating for innovative design and insulation to reduce carbon emissions. He collaborates extensively with European research projects, industry stakeholders, and governments to advance sustainable energy transitions. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, including affordable and clean energy (SDG 7) and climate action (SDG 13).
