Steffen Krogh is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University, affiliated with the School of Communication and Culture and the Department of German-Romanic. His research focuses on variation linguistics, historical linguistics, and Yiddish studies, particularly Eastern European Yiddish spoken by ultra-Orthodox Jewish communities. He has collaborated internationally in Germanic linguistics and served as Vice-President of the Internationale Vereinigung für Germanistik (IVG) from 2015–2021. Krogh has supervised three PhD students and contributed to curriculum development during his tenure as Head of the German Department (2007–2012). He also serves as a union representative and member of Aarhus University’s Academic Council.
Research interests include language variation across time, space, and social groups, with a specialization in Yiddish dialectology and German-Yiddish linguistic interactions. His work bridges theoretical linguistics with applied pedagogy, emphasizing cultural-historical contexts in language teaching. Recent projects involve fieldwork in Romania’s Yiddish-speaking communities and syntactic analysis of Haredi Yiddish.
Publications span peer-reviewed journals like Sprachwissenschaft and Zeitschrift für Dialektologie und Linguistik, focusing on Yiddish grammar, lexicography, and historical language evolution. He actively reviews for academic journals and publishers globally, contributing to scholarly discourse in Germanic and Yiddish studies.
