معرفی
Stefano D'Alessandro serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Turin, where he investigates fundamental mechanisms of plant stress adaptation. His research bridges molecular physiology and agricultural applications through cutting-edge investigations of photosynthetic regulation and environmental response systems.
Specializing in plant stress physiology, D'Alessandro's work centers on photosynthesis regulation under abiotic stress, reactive oxygen species signaling networks, and novel stress tolerance mechanisms involving compounds like β-cyclocitric acid. His laboratory employs advanced techniques including MoBiFC imaging for chloroplast protein interactions and ppGpp signaling analysis to decode how plants balance growth with environmental challenges. Key discoveries include geomagnetic field dependencies in photosynthesis and TOR kinase-mediated growth-stress coordination pathways.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2019-2023) reveals three dominant research trajectories: (1) molecular mechanisms of drought tolerance through apocarotenoid signaling, (2) photosynthetic regulation via ppGpp and TOR pathways during nutrient stress, and (3) innovative methodologies for studying chloroplast protein interactions. These intersect at the critical challenge of enhancing crop resilience through fundamental physiological insights.
D'Alessandro currently leads two major research initiatives funded by the Italian Ministry of University and Research:
- PRIN2022 LICAT (LISCL-mediated catabolism regulates plant-environment interactions) investigating cellular detoxification pathways in Arabidopsis and tomato
- PRIN2022 PNRR IRONCROP (Flavodiiron proteins to rethink photosynthesis and boost crop yield) exploring flavodiiron protein applications for improving photosynthetic efficiency in crops
He actively teaches advanced courses including General Botany and Plant Eco-Physiology in High Altitude Environments, Plant Physiology and Eco-Physiology, and Food Science, training next-generation plant scientists in stress physiology principles and methodologies.
