Stefano Benazzi is a Full Professor of Physical Anthropology at the University of Bologna's Department of Cultural Heritage. He leads the ERC-funded projects LAST NEANDERTHALS (Synergy Grant), SUCCESS (Consolidator Grant), and participates in FIRSTSTEPS (Advanced Grant). He directs the BONES Lab, specializing in osteoarchaeology and paleoanthropology, and coordinates excavations at sites like Halban (Oman), Grotta della Lea (Italy), and Uluzzo C. His research focuses on human evolution, dental morphology, and digital reconstruction methods for fragmented bones. He also studies ancient population demographics, health, and Neanderthal-Homo sapiens interactions.
