Stefanie Meilinger

Prof. Dr. Stefanie Meilinger is a Professor for Sustainable Technologies at Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS), with a focus on Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energies. She serves as Director of the International Centre for Sustainable Development (IZNE) and is a member of the Institute for Technology, Resource Conservation and Energy Efficiency (TREE).

• Education: Doctorate in Environmental Sciences (Dr.sci.nat.) from ETH Zurich (cooperation with MPI for Chemistry, Mainz), Diploma in Physics ("very good") from Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, and additional study in Philosophy from the same institution.

Her research interests span Sustainable Energy Systems (photovoltaic storage, hydrogen systems, Power-to-X technologies), Sustainable Mobility (alternative fuels, climate-friendly air transport), and the Sustainability of Technological Transformation Processes. She applies Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), sustainability analysis, and energy meteorology to model climate impacts on PV yields and develop forecast-driven energy system controls.

Key projects under her leadership include:

• GREATER: Training professionals for Rwanda's renewable energy transition.
• reTURN: Recycling organic residues and CO2 into climate-friendly synthetic fuels.
• Green Hydrogen from Brewing Biomass: Analyzing brewer's grains for sustainable hydrogen production.
• EnerSHelf: Developing photovoltaic solutions for Ghana's unstable healthcare energy supply.
• TRE³L: Collaborative energy labs with GKN partners for powder metallurgy and sustainable mobility research.
• MetPVNet: Satellite-assisted PV power forecasting at grid level.

Labs under her affiliation include the Energy Meteorology Laboratory, Ökobilanzlabor, and the TREE Energy Lab. She teaches courses like Sustainable Energy Storage, Ethics and Sustainability, and LCA & Sustainability Analysis.
