Stefanie Kaboth-Bahr is a Junior Professor of Paleoclimatology at the Freie Universität Berlin, affiliated with the Department of Paleontology under the Institute of Geological Sciences. Her research focuses on understanding Earth's climate system through studies of past climate variability, particularly the interplay between low- and high-latitude climate processes, and marine-terrestrial climate linkages. Her work employs advanced methods in paleontology, sedimentology, and geochemistry.
Education & Career:
- PhD in Paleoclimatology (2016, Utrecht University, Netherlands)
- Postdoctoral positions at institutions including Universität Potsdam, Universität Heidelberg, National Taiwan University, and Université du Québec à Montréal.
Research Interests: Key projects include investigating the African Humid Period, monsoon variability over the past 5 million years, and the role of climate in human evolution. She has led studies on hydroclimate dynamics in Ethiopia (Chew Bahir Basin) and West Africa (Lake Bosumtwi).
Publications & Fieldwork: Over 50 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on Eocene hyperthermal events, North Atlantic Deep Water dynamics, and societal impacts on ancient environments. Fieldwork includes expeditions to Cuba, Jordan, India, and Lesotho.
Labs & Collaborations: Collaborates with international teams on projects funded by the Leibniz Institute and IODP. Active in paleoclimate drilling initiatives (e.g., Lake Bosumtwi, South China Sea).
