Stefan Zimmermann

Dr. Stefan Zimmermann is a PostDoc and Group Leader in Cell Printing at the Department of Microsystems Engineering (IMTEK) of the University of Freiburg. He holds a diploma in Biology from the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and a PhD from the University Medical Center Freiburg, focusing on telomere stability in hematopoietic stem cells. His postdoctoral work explored telomerase inhibition in cancer therapy before joining IMTEK in 2014 to develop single-cell printing technology. Since 2015, he leads the Cell Printing group, advancing research in bioprinting, 3D cell culture automation, and microfluidics-driven organoid handling. Key projects include BrainLinks – BrainTools and BIOSS, with a focus on standardizing bioprinting workflows, spheroid generation, and vascularization strategies. His lab addresses challenges in tumor immunotherapy, renal disease modeling, and biomedical engineering solutions.
