Stefan Wiklund is a Professor and Head of the Department of Social Work at Stockholm University. His research focuses on marketization and privatization in social services, particularly examining implications for child and family welfare. Key research groups include:

His research interests span privatization impacts on social work, child welfare systems, evidence-based practices, quasi-market dynamics in public services, and socioeconomic factors in social assistance. Recent publications analyze marketization trends in residential care, child perspective implementation in local policies, and economic vulnerability among lone mothers receiving social aid.
Current research projects include a six-year longitudinal study of 2,000 children in Stockholm's child welfare system, and a national survey on foster care models. Collaborations involve the Department of Criminology, Department of Sociology, and Stockholm City Social Services.
