Stefan Schulreich is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Vienna. His interdisciplinary research combines neuroscience, psychology, and behavioral economics to study decision-making processes, stress responses, and neurocognitive mechanisms underlying social and economic behaviors.
His work employs neuroimaging techniques (fMRI, fNIRS) to investigate how cortisol influences valuation, altruism, and risk perception. Recent large-scale collaborative projects examine public engagement with science and climate change attitudes across 60+ countries.
Schulreich's publications demonstrate methodological innovation in linking physiological measures (cortisol, neuroimaging) with behavioral outcomes. Key findings include stress-induced alterations in sunk cost processing, neural correlates of charitable giving, and prefrontal mechanisms of uncertainty resolution.
He teaches courses in nutritional neuroscience and contributes to international research consortia on climate psychology. His lab focuses on translating basic research on decision neuroscience to real-world challenges like climate action and science communication.
