Stefan Schulenberg

Stefan Schulenberg is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Mississippi, College of Liberal Arts. He serves as Director of the Clinical-Disaster Research Center (UM-CDRC) and Director of the interdisciplinary minor in Disaster Sciences (DSci), involving collaborations across psychology, criminal justice, social work, and sociology.

His educational background includes a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Houston (1995), an M.A. from the University of South Dakota (1998), and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Dakota (2001). He is a licensed psychologist in Mississippi and a Logotherapy Diplomate.

Dr. Schulenberg's research focuses on clinical-disaster psychology, positive psychology, and logotherapy. He studies perceived meaning, purpose, resilience, posttraumatic stress, and posttraumatic growth in the aftermath of disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, tornadoes, and flooding. His work integrates existential and positive psychological frameworks into disaster mental health.

The available publications reflect a strong emphasis on disaster case studies, meaning-centered therapy, and existential-positivist clinical frameworks. His research bridges theory, practice, and policy in emergency and mental health contexts.
