Stefan Schori

Stefan Schori is a Lecturer at Bern University of Applied Sciences in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology within the School of Engineering and Computer Science. He serves as Group Leader for Electricity Networks and conducts research at the Institute for Energy and Mobility Research (IEM) and the BFH Energy Storage Center. Dr. Schori also represents the Engineering and Computer Science Department in the Sustainable Development Commission of BFH.

His primary research interests focus on electrical energy supply systems with decentralized generation, storage and flexible consumers. He specializes in planning and operation of electrical distribution networks considering increasing PV installations, electric mobility and heating electrification. His work addresses power quality issues in distribution networks caused by modern equipment connections and develops optimization methods for grid planning and operation. Dr. Schori has published extensively on topics including target grid planning, quality reserves in distribution networks, and grid-friendly operation of battery storage systems.

Dr. Schori leads multiple research projects including PLANET, QuVert, Bat4SG, and OptiQ, which address critical challenges in modern electrical grid operation and planning. His research has resulted in practical methodologies and tools for utilities and grid operators facing challenges from increasing electrification and renewable energy integration.

Dr. Schori actively supervises Bachelor's and Master's students on projects related to electrical energy networks, power quality, and energy storage systems. His professional affiliations include Chairman of the Swissolar Decentralized Storage Expert Committee, board member of the Power-Quality-Group CH, and Chairman of TK 8 (System aspects of electrical energy supply) at the Swiss Electrotechnical Committee. He also leads the Electricity Networks Laboratory, which focuses on developing methodologies for distribution network modeling, target grid planning, and integration of storage systems for grid stability.
