Stefan Samuelsson is a Professor at Linköping University's Department of Behavioural Sciences and Learning (IBL), specializing in Special Needs Education. He holds dual affiliations in the Division of Education, Teaching and Learning (PEDI) and leads research on reading/writing development, learning disabilities (including dyslexia), and the genetic/environmental influences on early cognitive/language development. His 20-year career includes projects focusing on at-risk populations like children with low birth weights and adult prisoners. Currently, he leads the International Longitudinal Twin Study, examining genetic/environmental effects on early learning. Samuelsson's work bridges education and neuroscience, with over 50 peer-reviewed articles on literacy interventions, developmental trajectories, and cross-linguistic studies.
Research Focus: Reading/writing disabilities, early cognitive development, behavioral genetics in education, and evidence-based interventions. Collaborations include international teams from Australia (B. Byrne), the US (R. Olson), and Norway (B. Furnes).
Key Projects: Twin studies on literacy development, numeracy interventions for at-risk students, and longitudinal tracking of learning outcomes.
Grants & Awards: Extensive funding from Swedish and international education research councils. His lab emphasizes translating research into classroom practices through randomized controlled trials.
Labs/Teams: Principal investigator in the Division of Education, Teaching and Learning (PEDI) and core member of the IBL department's interdisciplinary research groups.
