معرفی
Stefan Kuhr is a Professor and Head of the Department of Physics at the University of Strathclyde, where he leads research in experimental ultracold-atom physics, quantum optics, and quantum simulation. His work focuses on the single-site resolved manipulation of atoms in optical lattices, contributing significantly to quantum information science and quantum technology. He is affiliated with the SUPA (Scottish Universities Physics Alliance) and the Measurement, Digital and Enabling Technologies research group.
His research interests include quantum-gas microscopy, Floquet engineering, many-body quantum systems, and the development of deterministic single-atom sources. He has pioneered techniques for imaging and controlling few-atom quantum systems, enabling the study of commensurate and incommensurate quantum phases, solitons, and instabilities in driven systems.
His recent publications (2023–2024) highlight advancements in quantum-gas microscopy, deconvolution techniques, holographic light shaping, and Floquet-driven superfluids. These works span topics in quantum simulation, optical engineering, and condensed matter physics, demonstrating a strong trend toward programmable quantum systems and high-precision control.
- ERC Starting Grant (2011)
- Fellow of the Institute of Physics (2011)
Stefan Kuhr is a Principal Investigator and Co-investigator on multiple EPSRC-funded projects, including the Quantum Advantage in Quantitative Quantum Simulation programme grant and the Hub for Quantum Computing via Integrated and Interconnected Implementations (QC13). He supervises PhD students and collaborates extensively across the UK and internationally. He is actively engaged in professional service, including invited talks, conference organization, and journal peer review.
He leads a research team focused on quantum simulation and quantum technology development, working on quantum-gas microscopes, optical lattice engineering, and the control of ultracold atomic systems. His group is part of the broader quantum research ecosystem at Strathclyde, contributing to national quantum hubs and collaborative networks.
