Prof. Stefan Burdach is a Professor of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the TUM School of Medicine and Health. He serves as director of the Department of Outpatient Care and Pediatrics at Klinikum Rechts der Isar and head physician of the Children's Clinic at Schwabing Hospital in Munich. His research focuses on optimizing oncological therapies for children and adolescents using cell biology insights, with particular expertise in stem-cell transplantation and gene chip technology.
Before joining TUM in 2003, Burdach held positions at Harvard University, Stanford University, and Halle University. He has held editorial roles for journals like Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation, and advises major organizations including the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation. His awards include the Kind-Philipp Prize (2009) and the Hill Memorial Award (1987).
His work emphasizes translational research, with key contributions to high-dose chemotherapy protocols for Ewing sarcoma and genomic analysis of childhood cancers. Burdach holds intellectual property in gene chip technology and collaborates internationally through initiatives like the Euro-EWING99 clinical trials.
