Steen Hjul Lybke is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Science & Faith (CVT) within the Department of Systematic Theology, Faculty of Theology, University of Copenhagen. His interdisciplinary research examines the concept of the good life during ecological crisis through theological, philosophical, and sociological frameworks.
Educational background includes:
- High school graduation (2013)
- Philosophy studies at University of Copenhagen (2014-2015)
- Sociology degree at University of Copenhagen (2015-2021)
- Diploma in public governance (part 1 completed 2023)
Lybke's research integrates Scandinavian Ecotheology with Critical Theory, focusing on K.E. Løgstrup's philosophy of sensation, Charles Taylor's moral frameworks, and Hartmut Rosa's resonance theory. He investigates how religious dimensions of existence, social energy, and human-animal relations inform responses to ecological collapse, emphasizing attunement to significance in the Dianthropocene era.
His 13 publications reveal strong interdisciplinary convergence across theology, philosophy, and sociology. Dominant themes include ecological crisis ethics, resonance theory applications, and religious education's role in fostering environmental awareness. Methodologically, he reactualizes classical philosophical concepts to address contemporary planetary challenges, particularly through Løgstrup's sensation philosophy and Rosa's social acceleration critiques.
Lybke maintains affiliation with the Centre for Science & Faith and serves as an associated doctoral researcher at Max Weber Kolleg in Erfurt (from spring 2025) under Hartmut Rosa's supervision.
