Dr. Stavroula Chrona is an Assistant Professor in Politics at the University of Sussex, School of Law, Politics and Sociology. She joined Sussex in September 2022, after previous roles at Queen’s University Belfast, King’s College London, University of Bath, Cardiff University, and University of Surrey.

Her research lies at the intersection of political science and psychology, focusing on the psychological underpinnings of political behavior. She explores cognitive, affective, and motivational mechanisms shaping political judgments, particularly the role of emotions, values, and ideologies in authoritarian and populist contexts.
Recent publications highlight trends in political psychology (2021–2024), including pandemic stress and compliance, social movement dynamics in Turkey, and affective dimensions of reactionary politics. Her methodological expertise spans surveys, experiments, and mixed methods.
