Professor Stavros Zenios is a Professor of Operations Management and Finance at Durham University's Business School. He is currently on sabbatical leave from the University of Cyprus, where he previously served as Rector and Dean of the School of Economics and Management. He also holds the position of Non-resident Fellow at Bruegel in Brussels and is a Member of the National Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts of Cyprus.
His research spans financial risk management, political risk analysis using AI, sovereign debt sustainability, climate impacts on debt, portfolio optimization, and robust optimization under ambiguity. He has pioneered work on GDP-linked bonds, sovereign debt dynamics, and the integration of climate change and political risk into financial engineering frameworks.
Recent publications focus on hedging political risk in portfolios, green bond diversification, and the climate-sovereign debt doom loop, demonstrating his interdisciplinary approach to blending macroeconomic and environmental challenges with quantitative finance. His work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the EURO Excellence in Practice Award, Marie Sklodowska-Curie fellowships, and the INFORMS Prize for Computing.
