Stavros Kolios is an Assistant Professor in Aerospace Science and Technology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His research focuses on advanced meteorological systems, remote sensing technologies, and environmental monitoring using satellite data. He specializes in developing automated algorithms for weather forecasting, rainfall estimation, and atmospheric analysis.
Key research interests include machine learning applications for meteorology (e.g., hail detection, aerosol monitoring), satellite-based environmental systems (GIS platforms for flood monitoring, land-use change analysis), and climatic studies in the Mediterranean region. He has pioneered projects integrating neural networks with geospatial data to enhance weather prediction accuracy and ecological assessment.
His work spans 20+ years, with publications addressing topics like TRMM rainfall accuracy, dust outbreak detection, and cloud system oscillations. Collaborative projects include the Ionian-Puglia meteorological network and environmental monitoring systems for Greek ports. He actively contributes to open-source tools like the GEOMAGNET WebGIS application.
