Stave Kohtz is a Professor in the Department of Foundational Sciences at Central Michigan University College of Medicine. Previously, he was a faculty member at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine for 30 years, where he established a research laboratory focused on molecular and cell biology. His work spans neurodegenerative diseases, psychosocial stress in memory, cancer biology, and medical education.
- M.Phil., Icahn School of Medicine, New York, NY
- Ph.D., Icahn School of Medicine, New York, NY
- B.A., Columbia University
Dr. Kohtz's research interests integrate molecular mechanisms in cancer progression, nuclear pore dynamics in drug resistance, and stress-related neurodegeneration. His lab develops case-based learning methods and explores novel therapies for breast and ovarian cancers.
His publications highlight trends in cancer biology (ovarian, glioblastoma, uterine carcinomas), neuroscience (Alzheimer's, Parkinson's), and muscle development (myogenin, myoblast differentiation).
Scientific Awards:
- Westinghouse Semi-finalist
- Department of Medicine Research Award
- National Merit Finalist
- Nathan I. Selz Prize
- Josiah Macy Scholar
Dr. Kohtz has secured funding from the NIH, American Heart Association, and Elsa U. Pardee Foundation. His laboratory at CMU focuses on extending disease-free survival for breast cancer patients through innovative approaches.
