Dr. Stanley Xiao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). He holds a PhD in Pure Mathematics from the University of Waterloo (2016), with a thesis on binary forms and counting rational points on varieties. His research focuses on analytic and algebraic number theory, particularly density problems requiring interdisciplinary techniques. Xiao is fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese.
Education: PhD (University of Waterloo, 2016), MMath (Waterloo, 2011), BSc (UBC, 2009). His expertise includes analytic number theory, prime distribution, arithmetic geometry, and geometry of numbers. He has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Toronto (2018-2021) and the University of Oxford (2016-2018).
Research Interests: Xiao investigates density-type problems involving binary forms, k-free integers, and rational points on algebraic varieties. His work bridges algebraic structures and analytic methods, with applications to counting problems and Diophantine equations. Recent studies include monogenic cubic fields, quartic D₄-fields, and exponential sums over singular forms.
Awards: Murray Martin Prize (2017), NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship (2016-2018), and multiple Ontario Graduate Scholarships. His contributions have been recognized through invited talks at institutions like the University of Cambridge, Oxford, and MIT.
Teaching Experience: Taught courses at U of T, Waterloo, and Oxford, including Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Algebraic Cryptography. Active in academic service, including organizing number theory seminars and reviewing for top journals like the Journal de Théorie des Nombres de Bordeaux.
