Stacy Overstreet

Dr. Stacy Overstreet is a Professor at Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering. Her research examines childhood adjustment challenges arising from chronic stressors, using ecological-transactional models to investigate how community violence exposure and traumatic experiences affect psychosocial and academic functioning. She specializes in disaster mental health interventions and resilience factors in educational settings.

Research explores neurobiological responses to trauma, disaster recovery processes, and culturally responsive teaching practices. Recent work emphasizes structural determinants of childhood adversity and trauma-informed educational frameworks in marginalized communities.

Publications demonstrate a focus on post-disaster mental health interventions, particularly following Hurricane Katrina, with recent expansions to COVID-19 educational challenges. Research consistently addresses racial disparities in trauma exposure and response.

Teaches courses on Childhood Behavioral Disorders (PSYC 334), Stress and Trauma (PSYC 659), and Psychoeducational Assessment (PSYC 761/762). Currently not accepting new graduate students.
