Stacy M. Horner is an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrative Immunobiology at Duke University School of Medicine. Her research focuses on the intersection of RNA biology, cell biology, and immunology within the context of Flaviviridae virus infections, including dengue, Zika, and hepatitis C viruses. She holds multiple academic appointments across Duke's Basic Science Departments and is affiliated with the Duke Cancer Institute and Duke Initiative for Science & Society.
Her research interests center on understanding how RNA modifications regulate virus-host interactions, particularly through mechanisms involving m6A methylation and UFMylation pathways. Her work explores both viral replication strategies and host antiviral innate immune responses.
Recent publications highlight her contributions to mapping post-translational modifications in orthoflaviviruses, with specific focus areas including RNA regulatory controls, mitochondrial antiviral signaling, and interferon response modulation. Her work appears in journals such as J Virol, Nat Biotechnol, and Cell Host Microbe.
Horner has secured significant research grants from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and other NIH divisions for projects investigating RNA modifications and intestinal immune regulation.
