Stacie Rohrbach is a Professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the School of Design, Carnegie Mellon University, overseeing MDes, MPS, and MA programs. She teaches studio- and seminar-based courses in communication, information, and learning design across undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, and advises thesis projects.
- Prior to her directorship, she designed the School’s 2014 curriculum and served as Communication Design Chair (2013–2019).
- Her research focuses on design for learning, translating abstract information into experiential forms to enhance understanding and enjoyment in learning contexts.
Her work addresses contemporary challenges such as eating disorders, financial wellbeing, chronic illness management, and environmental mindfulness. She integrates learning theories into design practice and develops interactive assessment tools for performance tracking. Grants from the National Science Foundation, Qatar National Research Foundation, and others support her projects.
- She teaches Designing Experiences for Learning, sponsored by PNC Bank, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, UPMC Health Plan, and Phipps Conservatory.
- She has developed courses like Information, Interaction, and Perception and the doctoral course Teaching Design II.
Stacie holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Carnegie Mellon University and a Master of Graphic Design from North Carolina State University. She has contributed to national design education initiatives, served on editorial boards for AIGA publications (Dialectic, Dialog), and held leadership roles in the AIGA Design Educators Community and Adobe Design Achievement Awards.
