Dr. Stacey Kane is a faculty member in the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park, serving as Principal Investigator of the ChARM Lab. Her research focuses on pediatric auditory development and hearing loss diagnosis, particularly for children with developmental disabilities.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Hearing and Speech Sciences, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2024)
- AuD (Doctor of Audiology), Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine (2014)
- BA in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology, Washington University in St. Louis (2010)
Dr. Kane's research investigates how perceptual, linguistic, and developmental factors influence speech perception in children with hearing loss. Her work spans auditory skill development, hearing aid efficacy, and auditory neuropathy, with emphasis on real-world listening challenges like background noise and spatial processing.
Analysis of her 2020-2024 publications reveals consistent focus on developmental audiology across age groups, with methodological strengths in psychoacoustic testing and clinical translation. Key themes include spatial hearing mechanisms, binaural processing in hearing-impaired populations, and speech-in-noise recognition development.
She actively mentors five trainees through UMD's REACH, C-CEBH, and NACS programs, supervising doctoral candidates in audiology and undergraduate researchers. Her ChARM Lab team is developing innovative resources like social stories to improve hearing healthcare accessibility for neurodiverse children.
