Dr. Srinadh Komanduri is Professor of Medicine and Surgery at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, serving as Associate Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Director of Endoscopy at Northwestern Medicine. An internationally recognized expert in advanced endoscopy and Barrett's esophagus, he has published over 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts and directs Chicago Live, one of the nation's largest endoscopy courses training over 2,000 endoscopists in the past decade.
His educational background includes:
- MD from University of Miami (1997)
- MS from Rush Medical College (2001)
- Residency at Rush University Medical Center (2000)
- Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center (2003)
Dr. Komanduri's research centers on outcomes of advanced endoscopic procedures (EUS/ERCP), Barrett's esophagus management, and endoscopic training innovation. He pioneers techniques for pancreaticobiliary disease, early gastrointestinal malignancies, and esophageal cancer prevention, bridging clinical practice with educational advancement through simulation and national training programs. His work consistently addresses therapeutic challenges in interventional endoscopy while improving patient outcomes.
Recent publications reveal critical trends in biomarker discovery for cholangiocarcinoma using bile multi-omics, evolving standards for Barrett's esophagus eradication therapy, and systemic challenges in endoscopic training amid subspecialization pressures. These works highlight his dual focus on cutting-edge clinical solutions and sustainable educational frameworks for next-generation endoscopists.
His scientific recognition includes:
- Teaching Award, Department of Medicine, Feinberg School of Medicine (2018)
- Teaching Award, Gastroenterology (2017)
- AGA Faculty Mentor and Advisor Program (2010)
- GI Teaching Physician of the Year, Internal Medicine (2009)
- Teaching Attending of the Year, Gastroenterology (2009)
As an educator, Dr. Komanduri has mentored over 50 residents, fellows, and students during his 15-year career. He directs Northwestern Simulation's endoscopic training program, develops CME curricula for major societies (AGA, ASGE, ACG), and leads the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center's endoscopic initiatives. His grant-funded work focuses on improving endoscopic safety and efficacy through technological innovation and standardized training protocols.
He leads Northwestern Medicine's Interventional Endoscopy Program and serves on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network panel for Pancreatic Adenocarcinoma. His collaborative teams include multidisciplinary specialists in oncology, surgery, and biomedical engineering, driving projects in early cancer detection and minimally invasive therapeutic techniques.
