Srikripa Chandrasekaran is an Associate Professor of Biology and Assistant Dean of Inclusive Excellence at Furman University. She holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Louisiana State University, an MSc in Biotechnology from Maharaja Sayajirao University, and a BSc in Microbiology from the University of Mumbai.
Her research focuses on stress response mechanisms in fungal pathogens, particularly Cryptococcus neoformans. She investigates how drug resistance in fungi correlates with their ability to tolerate environmental stresses like heat, osmotic pressure, and oxidative stress. Her lab uses yeast genetics to identify proteins involved in stress adaptation and employs models like zebrafish and fungi to study cytokinesis and stress responses.
Prior to Furman, she held roles as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Elon University and a lecturer at Clemson University, focusing on fungal stress biology and heat resistance mechanisms. Her work bridges molecular biology, microbiology, and clinical applications, emphasizing translational research in antifungal drug development.
Dr. Chandrasekaran's educational contributions include innovative case studies in genetics and inclusive excellence initiatives. Though no specific awards are listed, her publications reflect sustained contributions to fungal biology and stress response research.
