Dr. Srikanth Singamaneni is the Lilyan & E. Lisle Hughes Professor in Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Washington University in St. Louis’s McKelvey School of Engineering. His research focuses on developing nanomaterials for biomedical applications, plasmonic nanostructures for diagnostics, and bioinspired materials. He joined the faculty in 2010 following a PhD from Georgia Tech under Prof. Vladimir Tsukruk.
- Education:
- PhD, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2009
- MS, Western Michigan University, 2004
- BE, Nagarjuna University, 2002
His research spans plasmonic engineering in nanomedicine (biosensors, bioimaging, therapeutics), photovoltaics, SERS-based chemical sensors, and bioinspired adaptive materials. Notable contributions include work on hierarchical nanohybrids and nanoparticle-neural interactions. He leads a lab with over 85 peer-reviewed articles, six book chapters, and an authored book.
Awards:
- NSF CAREER Award (2013)
- Dean’s Innovation Award (2013)
- MRS Gold & Best-Poster Awards (2007–2008)
Active in interdisciplinary collaborations, he affiliates with the Center for Aerosol Science and Engineering, Center for Science and Engineering of Living Systems, and Institute of Materials Science & Engineering. Recent projects include studying nanopore contaminants and neuro-nano interfaces with Prof. Barani Raman.
