University of Arkansas for Medical Sciencesمعرفی
Sree V. Chintapalli, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), College of Medicine. His research is centered on understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying metabolic health, with a focus on muscle function, myoglobin biology, and the impact of nutrition and physical activity on metabolic regulation.
His research interests include:
- Metabolic regulation in muscle tissue
- Role of myoglobin in oxygen delivery and metabolite interactions
- Lipid trafficking and lipotoxicity in insulin resistance
- Integration of in silico, in vitro, and in vivo methods to study whole-body metabolism
- Bioinformatics analysis of RNA-Seq, microbial, and metagenomic data
Dr. Chintapalli's work bridges computational biology and experimental physiology, aiming to uncover fundamental principles of metabolic health in both children and adults. His lab investigates how metabolites from fat, glycolysis, and TCA cycles interact with myoglobin under hypoxic and acidic conditions, with implications for diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart failure. His research also explores the effects of fitness interventions and controlled feeding on molecular and systemic physiology.
He is a member of the ACNC Biostatistics and Data Innovation Team and actively collaborates with multidisciplinary research groups. His prior experience includes postdoctoral work at Pennsylvania State University and the University of California, Davis. Before joining UAMS in 2015 as a visiting scientist, he built a strong foundation in computational biology and bioinformatics.
Dr. Chintapalli’s educational background includes:
- B.S. in Biochemistry, Andhra University, India
- M.S. in Biochemistry, Andhra University, India
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, The University of Essex, U.K.
He advises on bioinformatics projects and contributes to collaborative research initiatives involving data analysis and biostatistics. While no formal list of advisees or awards is available, his leadership in integrative metabolic research positions him as a key contributor to advancing pediatric and adult metabolic science.
His laboratory operates at the intersection of structural, functional, and evolutionary biology, applying biochemical, biophysical, and computational tools to address complex physiological questions. Future work aims to elucidate how myoglobin and related proteins respond to nutritional and fitness challenges during development and pregnancy, filling critical knowledge gaps in metabolic adaptation.
