Sravan Pingali is a Lecturer in Aviation Human Factors at Griffith University's School of Engineering and Built Environment, specifically within the Griffith Aviation department. He has been with Griffith University since 2016 and currently serves as Program Director for the Bachelor of Aviation and Bachelor of Aviation/Bachelor of Information Technology programs. Pingali also supervises doctoral research and teaches courses in aviation human factors to both pilots and non-pilots, emphasizing the critical relationship between human factors and aviation safety.
His educational background includes a Doctor of Philosophy from Swinburne University of Technology, a Master of Information Technology from University of Ballarat, a Graduate Certificate of University Learning and Teaching from Griffith University, and a Bachelor of Psychology from University of Ballarat. Prior to his current position, he worked as an Aviation Lab Assistant at Swinburne University of Technology (2012-2015) and as a Sessional Academic at University of Ballarat (2006-2011).
Dr. Pingali's research focuses on aviation human factors, particularly pilot performance in the cockpit, learning and teaching methodologies in pilot training, and the interaction between flight crews and flight deck automation. His work integrates theories from multiple disciplines to provide students with a broad perspective applicable to various transportation industries including rail and automobile sectors. His teaching portfolio includes courses such as Human Factors for Pilots, Human Factors for Aviation Managers, Aviation Biology and Medicine, Introduction to Aviation Studies, and Aviation Research Methods.
His 15 most recent publications demonstrate a consistent research trajectory in aviation human factors, with particular emphasis on visual scanning patterns, optokinetic cervical reflex, cockpit automation, and safety in specialized aviation operations. The publications span from 2013 to 2024, showing sustained scholarly activity with increasing focus on emerging technologies and their human factors implications in aviation.
