Spyros Papapetros is an Associate Professor of Architecture at Princeton University's School of Architecture, where he has served since 2003. His interdisciplinary work bridges architectural historiography, art history, and psychoanalytic theory. He holds a Diploma in Architecture from the National Technical University of Athens, an AA Graduate Diploma from the Architectural Association in London, and a PhD from UC Berkeley.
His research focuses on the historiography of modern architecture, intersections between architecture and visual arts, and the psychological dimensions of spatial aesthetics. Key themes include ornament theory, latent life concepts in material culture, and the relationship between architectural form and psychoanalytic frameworks.
Papapetros has held prestigious fellowships at the Getty Research Institute, Canadian Centre for Architecture, and Warburg Institute. He contributed to major exhibitions like Animismus and co-edited Retracing the Expanded Field. His authored books include On the Animation of the Inorganic (2012) and edited volumes such as Space as Membrane (2010).
