Spyros Blionas

Dr. Spyros Blionas is a Visiting Professor at the University of Peloponnese's Department of Informatics and Telecommunications. He holds a Diploma in Physics (Electronics specialization) from the University of Athens (1983), an M.Sc. in Telecommunication Electronics (1986), and a Ph.D. in VLSI parallel architectures (1990) from the University of Patras. His career includes roles at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (1988–1990), INTRACOM (1991–2006), and founding Micro2Gen (2006), a spin-off for VLSI technology in Molecular Diagnostics. He has taught at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete (2007–2009) and the University of Peloponnese (since 2009, promoted to Professor in 2021).

His research focuses on embedded systems, System-on-a-Chip (SoC) design for telecommunications and biotechnology applications, including Lab-on-a-Chip instrumentation. He has authored/co-authored over 70 publications in journals/conferences and contributed to 20+ collaborative research projects, holding roles as researcher and coordinator.

Dr. Blionas has participated in projects at the Centre for Technological Development of Crete and holds six patent applications. His work bridges microelectronics, digital design, and biosensor integration for healthcare and communication technologies.
