Dr. Spike Gibbs is a Lecturer in Medieval European Economic and Social History at King's College London since 2025. He holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge and has held positions at the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Mannheim.
His research focuses on late medieval and early modern England, specifically examining governance of local communities, political-economic inequality, lordship's role in economies, medieval wage systems, and management of stray animals. His work combines archival analysis with quantitative methods.
Recent publications explore themes like manorial presentment juries, felony forfeiture practices, and economic elites' authority. He contributes to journals such as Economic History Review, Agricultural History Review, and Journal of British Studies.
Dr. Gibbs is affiliated with the Centre for Late Antique & Medieval Studies, working across disciplines including history, philosophy, and literature. His office is located at Strand Campus, London.
