Spencer Cohen is an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of Washington's Department of Geography. He is also the founder and principal of High Peak Strategy LLC, a Seattle-based research and economics consulting firm established in 2020. His expertise spans U.S.-China relations, international trade policy, and regional economic analysis. Cohen holds a Ph.D. in Geography (2016), an M.A. in China Studies (2005), and a B.A. in Mathematics & History (2001), all from the University of Washington.
His research focuses on China's economic growth dynamics, including land leasehold markets, local government finance, and urban development. He frequently contributes opinion pieces to outlets like the South China Morning Post and Seattle Business Magazine, and serves as a public speaker and policy analyst. Cohen is a member and 2021-2023 fellow of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations' Public Intellectuals Program.
