Spencer Carter

Spencer Carter is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center and a member of its Division of Cardiology. He joined the faculty in 2024 and specializes in cardiovascular medicine, with a focus on social determinants of health, racial disparities in cardiovascular disease, and inherited cholesterol disorders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (minor in Chemistry) from Wake Forest University
• Medical Degree from University of North Carolina School of Medicine
• Internal Medicine Residency at University of Chicago Medical Center
• Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center

His research explores familial hypercholesterolemia and systemic health inequities, with findings published in peer-reviewed journals. He is board-certified in cardiovascular disease, internal medicine, echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology.

Awards: 2023 American Heart Association Clinical Research Education Grant.

Professional Engagement: Active in the American College of Cardiology, American Society for Preventive Cardiology, American Heart Association, and co-founder of the White Coats Black Doctors Foundation (advisory board member).
