Soumya Mukherjee is an Assistant Professor at the University of Limerick, affiliated with the Bernal Institute, Department of Chemical Sciences, and SSPC - the SFI Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals. His research focuses on materials chemistry, nanomaterials, and porous materials for environmental sustainability, including carbon capture, water purification, and pollutant detection. He leads the Mukherjee Group, which develops energy-efficient adsorbents and innovative materials for industrial and environmental applications.
Key research interests include nanoporous materials (e.g., MOFs), adsorption science, and separation processes. He has contributed to breakthroughs in gas separation, such as selective capture of CO₂ and acetylene, and trace PFAS removal from water. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly environmental protection and clean energy.
Dr. Mukherjee holds prestigious awards, including the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Research Award and Humboldt Fellowship. His over 100 peer-reviewed publications and collaborations with institutions like the Technical University of Munich highlight his global impact. He actively mentors PhD students and oversees grants through fellowships like the Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship.
He directs the Mukherjee Group laboratory at the Bernal Institute, focusing on interdisciplinary research in materials synthesis, characterization, and applications. Current projects emphasize eco-friendly materials for pollution control and energy storage.
