Soumen Jana is a Research Fellow in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics at the University of Oxford, working within Randy Bruno's laboratory. His research investigates neural mechanisms underlying learning during texture discrimination using the mouse whisker system as a model.
His work focuses on how neurons encode and adapt to tactile input through in vivo two-photon and multiphoton microscopy techniques during behavioral tasks. This research bridges sensory processing, neural plasticity, and learning mechanisms, with emphasis on cortical coding of tactile information and adaptive neural responses in sensorimotor contexts.
Dr. Jana is an active member of the Bruno research group, which examines cortical circuit function and neural computation. His work contributes to the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics' internationally recognized research profile, consistently ranked #1 globally for Anatomy & Physiology in QS World Rankings (2017-2025).
