Sossina M. Haile is the Walter P. Murphy Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Chemistry. Her research focuses on electrochemically functional solids, particularly oxides, for sustainable energy technologies.
- Education: PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from MIT, M.S. from UC Berkeley, and B.S. from MIT.
Her work bridges solid-state ionic materials and electroceramics, with notable contributions to fuel cells and hydrogen production. Recent publications highlight advancements in superprotonic conductors, solar thermochemical processes, and structural analysis of energy materials.
Dr. Haile has received prestigious awards including the International Ceramics Prize (2012), Chemical Pioneer Award (2010), and the American Competitiveness Initiative Fellowship (2008). She was named one of Newsweek’s 12 People to Watch (2008) and has been an NSF National Young Investigator (1994-1999).
- Scientific Awards:
